It is clearly stipulated in the holy Qur'an that it tells the stories of previous nations:
“We do relate unto thee the most beautiful of stories, In that we reveal to thee this (portion of the) Qur-ān: before this, thou too was among those who knew it not
” (Surat Yusuf 12, verse 3). Similar verses stressing the importance of storytelling recur throughout this holy book.
